It seems that there’s a bit of a toy/play theme developing on my blog this week. Yesterday we were building a house from a cardboard box, today I’ve photographed one of our favourite toys. If I can stay organised, hopefully there’ll be another toy-related post before the end of the week.
So, for this week’s Gallery – Shapes: our beautiful stacking cups. I think our first son got these for Christmas when he was around four months old. We’ve played with them since he could sit up. First I built them up and he knocked them down. Then he slowly learned to fit them together himself. Now he can read all the numbers, quickly stack them in the right order, and build towers for his little brother to knock down.
I love the detail in these cups. The hexagon shape at the top appears again in half-hexagons round the edge. The ‘square’ cup has squares round the edge, the ‘triangle’ cup has triangles… for some reason I find this all very pleasing.
Neat and tidy, a set of perfect circles.
I bet we’ll see some really interesting photography for this week’s Gallery; head over to Sticky Fingers to check it out.
Beautiful close up shots, the colours are gorgeous x
Very colourful!
loving the colours!! x
Good old stacking cups! They are probably the most played with toys B has even now!
I love the bold colours too great photos 🙂
how did you photograph them? the colours are lovely.
It’s with Instagram on iPhone – it has a few different filters that you can add to photos. My new favourite app at the moment!
Those look very familiar. I love stacking cups, so easy to put away!
One thing I love about children’s toys are the colours and here I love how you combined the shapes with the fab colours. But I also love the images–are these taken with a hipsamatic (sp?!) app on an iPhone? Really cool effect.
Thanks. These ones are Instagram, my new iPhone obsession! I love Hipstamatic too, there are pros and cons to both. In fact, I might even write a post about them both!
Right then I’m off to look up the Instagram app!! Yes, please do write a post about them both, I’d be interested to read your comparisons.
Oh I really love these photos, they would look great on the wall. 🙂
Thank you. 🙂 That reminds me, I’ve been meaning to take some shots like this of a few favourite toys for the boys’ bedroom wall. If I ever get it done I’ll post them on here.
I do love a well designed toy…the keepers, fab! Gorgeous pictures too missy!
I like the saturated look you’ve got in these pictures. Weirdly abstract too. Nice one.
Lovely brings back memories
I love these pictures! We have those stackin cups too, v popular with both of them!
XxX
Beautiful photos, lovely words. My boy loves his stacking cups too, slightly different tho: just plain & different sizes. He was the same: the found it hilarious to knock a tower down when I built it. He’s up to to putting one inside the other atm.
In fact I did a stacky cup photo for what is still my most-viewed Silent Sunday!

Beautifully photographed and gorgeous nesting/stacking cups! These are one of my favorite, best value, long lasting through various developmental phases, multi use, toys! Love them in the bath, on land and in the sand!
